About Events at the Westmoreland Fairgrounds

4-H Events

The 4-H Youth Development Program, the largest youth serving program in the United States, provides informal educational opportunities to youth, ages 8-19. Activities are offered to youth in urban, rural, and suburban communities through local clubs, school programs, special interest clubs, and individual membership.

In Westmoreland County, over 3,000 youth participate in 4-H opportunities yearly, directed by over 300 adult volunteer leaders. Learn more about the 4-H program in Westmoreland County.

The goals of the 4-H Program are to increase knowledge on a variety of project areas while enhancing life-skills such as decision-making, public speaking, and leadership. We try to accomplish these goals through group interactions such as: communicating, working cooperatively, and being responsible. The youth learn by experiential activities-- preparing, designing, and evaluating their projects.

Many 4-H Events are held at Westmoreland Fairgrounds throughout the year.

What people have said is true, there are more lights than you can imagine. But, what follows is totally unexpected. Soon, you and your family are drawn into a holiday experience you'll never forget.

Overly's Country Christmas is fun for the entire family!  Come to Westmoreland Fairgrounds to warm yourself at a bonfire, enjoy a sleigh ride or wagon ride (weather permitting), visit Santa's Workshop, see the area's largest G-Scale Model Train Display, and stroll Christmas village.

  • The display features 2.4 million twinkling lights. If all the strands of lights were put end-to-end it would stretch to Mars! (That's Mars, PA!)
  • The display lights 15 acres of the Westmoreland Fairgrounds with 5 acres accessible to the guests through the Christmas Village and walk through area.
  • It takes up to 75 volunteers each night to run the display.

Overly's Country Christmas® is a nationally-recognized holiday light display that has been featured on "Good Morning America" and other ABC, NBC, and CBS affiliated television programs. In 1983 Good Housekeeping Magazine named Overly's Country Christmas® one of America's Best Outdoor Light Displays.
